Late summer is one of the best times to cook from the garden, and in this Farm Friday class, Chef Vindi will celebrate the season with a menu built around ripe tomatoes, wild mushrooms, stone fruit, and plenty of buttery pastry.

Together, we’ll work through a mix of savory and sweet preparations, including a rustic turnover and galette, before finishing with a warm seasonal fruit cobbler. Along the way, Vindi will share approachable techniques for working with pastry, building flavorful fillings, and making the most of late-summer produce, with lunch enjoyed together from the dishes prepared during class.

Farm Fridays are shorter daytime classes and workshops at Bella Luna Farms, created for those with a little flexibility in their Friday schedule. Each one will focus on a particular skill, subject, or seasonal project, with plenty of time to learn, take part, and enjoy being at the Farm.

Guests are invited to arrive at 10:30 am for coffee or tea before class begins at 11:00 am. Enjoy a light lunch featuring what you’ve made together during the class before wrapping up at approximately 2:00 pm.

The Instructor

Vindi Rathnayake

Born and raised in Sri Lanka, Vindi began her career as a software engineer, a path that took her around the world and deepened her curiosity about food, baking, and pastry. After moving to Melbourne, she traded her keyboard for a rolling pin and trained as a certified baker and pastry chef. She has since worked in artisanal bakeries and patisseries in both Melbourne and Seattle, and today teaches cooking and baking with an emphasis on technique, culture, and the pleasure of gathering around food. Her cooking is shaped by her Sri Lankan roots, her travels, and a wide-ranging interest in the food traditions of different cultures.
